How it checks
Every model here comes from its maker’s US specification page; each size guide links the source. For each TV the checker compares:
- Width against your wall space, minus the margin you want on each side.
- Height (on its stand if it goes on furniture) against your limit, for example a shelf above or the bottom of a window.
- Stand width: how far apart the feet are, or the width of a center stand, against the top of your furniture.
- Stand depth against the furniture’s depth.
A “?” means the maker doesn’t print that measurement. Weight matters as much as size: a TV unit’s weight limit is separate from the TV sizes it suits (IKEA’s 70⅞-inch BESTÅ unit carries a maximum of 55 pounds on top), so check both.
Questions people ask
How wide should a TV stand be?
At least as wide as the distance between the TV’s feet, and IKEA recommends a bench wider than the TV screen for stability and balance. TVs with feet near the edges need a stand almost as wide as the TV.
Can a TV be wider than its stand?
Yes, if the feet or center stand sit fully on the furniture and the furniture is rated for the weight. Many current TVs use a narrow center stand that fits on furniture much narrower than the screen. Anchor both to the wall (US CPSC).
